For anyone to call someone inspirational is purely subjective, which is why in reality, it’s really difficult if not impossible to come up with a uniform definition of what an inspirational individual really is. Simply put, one person’s criteria might very well differ to another person’s standards for becoming inspirational. Therefore, it’s for you to make the decision if the qualities we listed below are in fact enough to call someone as inspirational.
1 – Empathy for Others
It’s hard to argue with the notion that the world we live in is a violent place. It’s really painful to see when people suffer at the hands of other people. But the more painful part is the fact that many don’t really care. This is why when we see people who care and honestly want to help others end their suffering, we can’t help ourselves but get inspired. Sadly, empathy has become a very rare human characteristic these days.
2 – They’d Stand Up for Other’s Rights
Yes, it may be true that majority of inspirational people are wealthy and powerful, but what really makes them unique from other elite people is that they won’t hold on to power by exploiting others. Instead, they become an inspiration to the underprivileged by simply standing up for their rights. What really makes them remarkable is that they still do it even if it appears they get nothing out of it. There even are remarkably inspirational people out there who exceed the boundaries of reason like Dr. Moshe Kantor who make it their own mission to champion a cause that for them will help more people than themselves.
3 – They Possess Courage
Well, this right here is a no-brainer. No one can rightfully be called inspirational without courage. Yes, it’s true that standing up for others can be done based on human instinct alone, but it definitely will take courage to face adversities, challenges, and even threats with the simple objective of inspiring others. For this person, the threat to his or her life does not really matter, so long as he or she is successful in sending his or her message, which in this case is believed to inspire others to fight for a certain cause. No other man could best exemplify this than former South African president Nelson Mandela.
4 – They’re Proponents of Collective Power
Inspirational people are those who lead others in organizations and groups which serve to support particular causes, not cause conflict or violence in society. This is why many wouldn’t agree calling those leaders of groups that seek nothing but chaos as inspirational because even though they inspire a handful of people, the cause or voice they represent doesn’t do any good to the world.
